Countdown To Halloween // Day Seven

Welcome back to day seven of my countdown to Halloween series, where I share all of my favourite Halloween films. Today's film is...

The film follows journalist Buzzy Crocker (Steve Guttenberg) and his niece Anna Petterson (Kirsten Dunst) as they investigate and try to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of the five people that vanished from a hotel elevator on Halloween in 1939.

Based on the
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida; as well as Tokyo DisneySea and the Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. The ride first originally opened in 1994 and the TV movie adaptation followed three years later.

I've seen so many people claim that this was one of their favourite Halloween films to watch as a kid but for me growing up in the UK, this was never something that I really saw playing on our TV channels, which is a shame because I think it's something I would have really really loved. Sadly I was an adult when I first watched this and because of that, the magic was kind of taken away. I think it's great that they tried to give the Tower of Terror ride a backstory but I think they made it slightly too complex and the plot just became kind of messy and seems indecisive in a lot of places. Also, as the film was made in the 90's the special effects are as poor as you can imagine but honestly, I still love this film. I think it's probably because it gives you that nostalgic feeling of Halloween as a kid and I try and hold on to that magical feeling as much as I can.

No matter all of its flaws, this is such a lovely nostalgic Halloween film that is fun to watch. If you're one of those people that don't really enjoy watching scary movies but you love Disney Halloween films, you will love this!

"The Hollywood Tower Hotel. Halloween night, 1939. Five people disappeared mysteriously from the elevator, including Sally Shine, child movie star."
