Countdown To Halloween // Day Twelve

Welcome back to day twelve of my countdown to Halloween series, where I share all of my favourite Halloween films. Today's film is...

Halloween Film List Countdown Double, Double, Toil and Trouble

You're not a millennial if you didn't grow up watching films that featured the Olsen twins, am I right? And this film of theirs will definitely take you down memory lane...

The film follows the Farmer family: Don (Eric McCormack), Christine (Kelli Fox), Kelly (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Lynn (Ashley Olsen) as they are in deep debt and are facing the loss of their home. They have no choice but to ask their mean old Aunt Agatha (Cloris Leachman) for a loan, which is instantly refused. While the girls wait outside, they get talking to Agatha's gravedigger (Wayne Robson) and he tells them the story of Agatha's twin sister Sofia, who is trapped inside the house. He explains that Agatha found a rare gem called a moonstone which used to belong to a witch and now she possesses the magical powers. Agatha was crippled by jealousy of her twin sister and so she trapped her in a mirror inside the house and on  Halloween at midnight, the spell will become permanent. When the Farmers get home, mother Christine says that if their Aunt Sofia was still around, she'd help them with their financial mess, which induces the girls to begin a rescue mission to free Sofia before it's too late. This can only be done by twins who have possession of the moonstone, so they plot to steal it from Agatha...

This was one of the films that when I was growing up, I'd watch every year on Halloween without fail. I loved it but evil Aunt Agatha absolutely terrified me. Especially on the night of Halloween when she dresses herself all up to go to that weird, spooky event and puts all that mascara in her hair...it was a 100% nope from me. It's poorly rated online and yeah, I guess it probably is a little bit lame now. The plot isn't anything special and everything is a huge coincidence. Oh, you need twins to stop the evil witch? What a coinkydink. However, like I said, this was a film that I'd always watch on Halloween and it would give me that magical "It's Halloween and anything could happen" feeling as a kid. And even now when I watch it, it still gives me that really lovely nostalgic feeling and for that, I'll still watch this gem from time to time.

Overall, this may not be the best-written film and you won't see amazing performances but if you're looking for a fun, light-hearted film that all the family can watch, this is perfect!
