Bake: Smartie Flapjacks


One of my favourite things to do is bake and I really need to make more of a conscious effort to try and do it more and more! Tanya Burr isn't someone I even follow anymore, but when her 'Tanya Bakes' book was first released, I purchased it and recently, I realised that I had never even really made THAT much from it, so, one day, when I felt like baking, I noticed that I already had all the ingredients in the house to make her 'Smartie Flapjacks' so I went ahead and made them, and so today, I thought I'd share the recipe because sometimes it's nice to make something super quick and easy! 


You will need :

125g butter
100g light soft brown sugar
6 tablespoons of golden syrup
250g porridge oats
smarties for topping
square baking tin
greaseproof paper

Method :

Pre-heat the oven to 180C/350F/GM4 and line a square baking tray with greaseproof paper.

Over a low heat, melt the butter, then add the golden syrup and sugar. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved and stir until everything is well combined. 

Remove from heat and stir in the oats and mix all together, until everything is well combined.

Pour into the baking tray, ensuring to distribute contents evenly. Squash the mixture down with a metal spoon and then bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

Remove from the oven and while still hot, press the Smarties into the top.

Leave to cool in the tin and once cool, cut into squares.



...and that's all there is to it! Super easy and very yummy. I know not everyone is a huge fan of flapjacks, but I think they're such a nostalgic thing that really remind me of my childhood so I do still like to make them now and then!
